Join Our Team - Business Development Manager Vacancy

Over the last couple of years, the team at CT4N have been working with the local community, to reduce social isolation and provide support to individuals and groups through our range of accessible community transport services, especially to those who find the main bus and tram network difficult or impossible to use. We also operate conventional bus services across the city (through our trading arm – CT4N Ltd) which foster community links and enhance mobility across Greater Nottingham. We want to do more by expanding our range of services further and help even more people.  We are now looking for a Business Development Manager to join us on a full-time basis, to promote our services, grow our business, attract more passengers and stakeholder partners, and to help us achieve our objectives. The initial priority will be to focus on the marketing of the accessible minibus services we operate for the local community, and to identify areas of growth and development both in Nottingham and the surrounding districts. The role will also extend, in some instances, to general business development for CT4N. This is an exciting new opportunity for an enterprising and energetic person and offers a salary package between £34k and £36k.

Job Summary   
CT4N Charitable Trust (and its trading subsidiary CT4N) fulfils an important role in offering accessible travel to people in Nottingham, especially to those who find the main bus and tram network difficult or impossible to use. We also operate conventional bus services across the city which foster community links and enhance mobility across Greater Nottingham.  
We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join us to promote our services, grow our business, attract more passengers and stakeholders, and to help us achieve our objectives.  The initial priority will be to focus on the accessible minibus services for the local community operated by CT4N Charitable Trust. The role will also extend, in some instances, to general business development for CT4N. 

Objectives
The post holder will play a vital role as part of the CT4N Charitable Trust team, by:
a)    Identifying opportunities for the growth and development of current services, primarily increasing numbers of active members and journeys being delivered, and optimizing vehicle usage;

b)    Identifying opportunities for the growth and development into new areas of operation (both in terms of location, and mode) that contribute to charitable objectives;

c)    Initiating and pursuing funding options and developing bids to commissioners, trusts, funders and potential business partners; 

d)    Reporting on above options to the senior management board and making recommendations on development options with reference to risk and impact assessments;  
e)    Developing an overall short-to-medium term business growth strategy based on the above activities and working to achieve this through the use of an action plan;   

f)    Advising on focused marketing of services to target individuals and communities to increasing take-up of service;

g)    Promoting the services, aims, quality standards, USP and achievements of the organisation to the wider community, assisted by regular communication with key staff members;

h)    Providing and maintaining an outward-facing point of contact in the community for external engagement with users, potential users, community organisations, strategic bodies and other stakeholders with whom CT4N Charitable Trust wishes to establish and maintain positive and productive relations; and

i)    Acting as an ambassador for CT4N Charitable Trust to boost the outreach and profile of the whole business to a diverse range of stakeholders, to local / regional / national press & media, colleagues and board members.   
Working with the Managing Director, you will join the Sherwood office team. As part of the management team, you will also be responsible for some internal reporting and communications. While you will have a range of set functions, and receive steer and feedback from the Managing Director, you will have the autonomy to generate ideas, and run marketing and stakeholder engagement campaigns. It will be important for you to provide a significant networking presence in Greater Nottingham and further afield as required. 
A small support team will be available to assist in marketing and engagement activities, and you will be responsible for managing up to two members of staff in pursuit of objectives f), g), h) and i), to whom you will be expected to delegate some lower-level engagement functions. 


Main Duties/ Responsibilities
We anticipate the main activities of the role will include (but not be limited to) the following - the Business Development Manager will:
•    Engage directly with target communities (i.e. potential service users – older people, people with disabilities, voluntary sector organisations and community groups) to raise awareness and increase usage of services;
•    Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders such as: City and County council staff; elected members and Parish councillors, NHS, Housing Associations, CVS, charitable/third sector organisations; the Community Transport Association, local and regional journalists and trade press;
•    Closely monitor community and general developments (in Nottinghamshire and elsewhere) and ascertain what role (if any) CT4N Charitable Trust might play in any upcoming initiatives; 
•    Broker new relationships and forge new partnerships through active engagement and direct contact;  
•    Attend events, meetings, forums, and networking opportunities to promote the work and achievements of CT4N Charitable Trust, create and/or circulate appropriate literature, make presentations and facilitate briefings;
•    Develop bids, proposals and new projects as required (in collaboration with Managing Director, Finance Manager and other Directors);  
•    Provide direction for the promotion of services and contribute to the production of news stories, web content, social media and promotional copy;
•    Enhance the profile of CT4N Charitable Trust to potential volunteers, by assisting in the creation and promotion of volunteering opportunities, and support and development of volunteers;
•    Evaluate the impacts of stakeholder engagement to monitor and report on conversion to new users and retention of current users, initiation of new projects etc;
•    Work within a defined and limited development budget and ensure maximum impact with the resources available;
•    Attend meetings with senior managers/board of directors to provide information, advice and reports as required.
Please note that above duties and functions are interchangeable between CT4N Charitable Trust and CT4N (trading company) – however, it is anticipated that the initial focus of the position will be on the charity and the development of the Easylink and Group Transport services. However, this may be subject to change as opportunities arise.


This job description forms a guide to the duties required which may vary from time to time in response to changing circumstances. Out of normal working hours and weekend work will be required from time to time. 
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have a passion and flair for engagement, networking, project development, and marketing, and will preferably have two years’ experience in these areas. Equipped with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will be proactive and flexible, with demonstrable experience of brokering productive relationships, engaging new stakeholders and keeping existing ones, and promoting the value and ethos of CT4N Charitable Trust to a diverse audience.
Experience or knowledge of the passenger transport sector is not essential for this role, however, an interest in this area and keenness to learn is strongly welcomed.
